Rockabilly Chicks

A Symbol of the Style

Rockabilly chicks exude an air of sexy sweetness that is reminiscent of childhood innocence, yet completely sensual.  They wear hip, sexy clothing and have an upbeat, rebellious personality that promotes the rockabilly style.

Rockabilly music is the root of rock and roll today.  As a rebellious style of music (think of Elvis Presley and his swaying hips that caused a huge controversy), it would make sense that those who jump on the bandwagon and follow the style would dress in a controversial manner.  Many rockabilly chicks wore simple form-fitting blouses with straight skirts that showed off a sexy body in an innocent fashion.  Other rockabilly chicks wore swing dresses in the 1950s.  Swing dresses were very popular because they were stylish and sexy, allowed for ease of dancing with a more flared skirt, and blended with the crowd.

However, rockabilly chicks were some of the first women to wear pants in public.  Today referred to as capris, the pedal pushers worn by rockabilly chicks because a huge fashion trend in the 1950s, breaking rules and making way for women to begin wearing pants on a daily basis outside the farm

Modern rockabilly chicks often opt for simpler styles.  Daddy-O style shirts have been modernized for womens fashion, adding a more form fitting shape to the shirts (often worn as bowling shirts today).  Creeper shoes, once worn only by rockabilly men in the 1950s, come in all different colors, adjusted for appeal to a woman.

Vintage clothing stores and websites still offer original rockabilly chick clothes, like cropped black velvet jackets, rollneck blouses, and tweed skirts.  You can also find many modern items made to imitate the 1950s rockabilly chick look.  Times may have changed, but there is still something sexy and sweet about a rockabilly chick, and fashion will always correspond to what brings out the sex appeal of a woman!
