Rockabilly Jacket

Rockabilly, a genre of music created in the mid-1950�s, unknowingly began the transition into what is today known as rock and roll.  At the same time the movement was shaping the music world, the icons of rockabilly were shaping the future of fashion.

The rockabilly jacket is really just part of an ensemble that creates the image of a particular attitude.  A rockabilly jacket should be worn in a slightly baggy fashion over a collared shirt (the shirt is usually a pastel color).  The collar of the shirt is worn over the collar of the rockabilly jacket � it�s a style that you�ll see looking at old films of Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, and Buddy Holly.  In more modern times, cultural icons like Andrew Dice Clay have imitated the style, continuing to breathe life into the existence of the rockabilly jacket.

Slacks and creeper shoes, finishing off the look, accent the jacket and shirt.  A head of pompadour style hair should top everything off.  However, the look will is always incomplete without the rockabilly jacket.

The distinct rockabilly clothes give these music lovers a unique style and a visible presence in the musical community.  Those who wear rockabilly clothes, including the rockabilly jacket, are often referred to as �rockabillies�, or simply �billies� for short.

The fashion trend of rockabilly is alive and well with modern rockabilly bands like The Meteors.  In the 1980�s, they, along with more mainstream artists like The Stray Cats, brought back the popularity of the style, including the rockabilly jacket.  Today, members of the band Weezer, while not playing rockabilly music, are often seen wearing rockabilly clothing.
