The rockabilly shirt is a staple of the rockabilly look. Both men and women have worn different styles of rockabilly shirts. Men in the 1950’s who created the style, like Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, and Jerry Lee Lewis are the icons from which the rockabilly style is taken. If you look back at old film, you’ll see a similarity in their style of dress. The rockabilly shirt is defined by the pastel colors often worn. All have a collar, which is worn folded out on top of a baggy sport jacket. |

What is rockabilly?
Rockabilly is a style of music created in the mid-1950’s that
eventually became the forefather of modern rock and roll music.
Rockabilly became more than just a style of music, however.
The men and women of music who created the sound also started a
sub-culture that involved fashion and attitude as much as musical style. Other shirts, which resembled those
used as bowling shirts today, are referred to as Daddy-O style shirts.
These rockabilly shirts make spotting rockabilly music lovers a breeze.
Today, you’ll also find many current rock stars sporting the style,
such as Weezer, who don’t even play rockabilly music but who seem to have been
majorly influenced by the style, or The Meteors, a modern rockabilly band. |
