Rockabilly Date

What to Expect

If you’ve never heard of rockabilly, you are behind the times.  Rockabilly is a musical style that began in the mid-1950’s and has been improved upon over time.  Today, rockabilly is slightly different than the original 50’s style, but a rockabilly date should pose as much of a fun time as it would have back then.

A rockabilly date would probably include a ride in a 1950’s style car, or perhaps on a Harley Davidson, both of these being preferred methods of transportation for a rockabilly lover.  A woman can expect her rockabilly date to wear clothing that resembles the style of 1950’s superstars like Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison, and Jerry Lee Lewis.  This might include a Daddy-O style shirt, baggy sport jacket, slacks, and creeper shoes.  The classic rockabilly male will wear his hair pompadour style with lots of Brylcreem to hold the shape and provide the shine.

This rockabilly date with James Dean didn't end so well

A rockabilly date with John Travolta, however, would rock

A female on a rockabilly date may wear a vintage gingham blouse with capris, the modern day derivative of the pedal pushers made popular by rockabilly women of the 1950’s.  Perhaps the lady may opt for a straight wool skirt and peek toe shoes or a swing dress as many early rockabilly women did.  A more modern rockabilly woman may opt for a female-style Daddy-O shirt and creeper shoes on her rockabilly date.

Out on the town, the rockabilly date will most likely include some sort of concert or club venue, where rockabilly music is played and couples are out on the dance floor.  Rockabilly music has a strong beat and bluesy rhythm that allows for dancing pleasure.  Music by The Meteors or The Stray Cats would be played as a more modern sampling of rockabilly music, while Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash classics would be reminiscent of the classic rockabilly style.  Whether your preference is classic or modern revival rockabilly, a rockabilly date is sure to be a good time.
