Rockabilly Dating

Following a Trend

Rockabilly is a musical style that began in the mid-1950s with the Memphis recordings of Elvis Presley, Scotty Moore, and Billy Black.  Though conceived by accident, the style created an entire sub-culture that has influenced a nation.  Today, rockabilly is slightly different than the original 50s style, but rockabilly dating is still loads of fun.

A rockabilly date might involve a ride in a 1950s style car, like an Edsel or a classic Caddy, or even a trip on a Harley Davidson, both of these being favored transports for a rockabilly lover.  Rockabilly dating may involve the couple wearing clothing that resembles the 1950s superstars like Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Buddy Holly, and Jerry Lee Lewis.  Typical rockabilly style for men includes slacks, creeper shoes, pastel shirts, and baggy sport jackets with the shirt collar worn over the coat collar.  Women involved in rockabilly dating should expect their men to wear their hair in pompadour style with plenty of hair wax holding their hair up in shiny style.

Rockabilly dating for women may involve wearing vintage gingham blouses with capris, the current version of the original pedal pushers of the 1950s.  Of course, other options include the straight wool skirt worn in the 1950s, or the swing dresses that made rockabilly dating and dancing easier with the flared skirt.  Modern day wear may include a feminine Daddy-O shirt with creeper shoes modified for women.

Rockabilly dating will involve a night out on the town, dancing and enjoying standard rockabilly music.  This music will include a strong beat backed by a country twang and bluesy soul rhythms.  Vocalists will gulp and stutter their way through classics like Blue Suede Shoes, as well as more modern anthems like those by The Stray Cats or The Meteors.  Overall, rockabilly dating should be fun and exciting, and those partaking of the adventure should never be afraid to be themselves.
