The Creeper Shoe

Creeper shoes were originally sported by popular artists from the 1950’s like Johnny Cash and Jerry Lee Lewis.  These shoes were worn mostly by men and came in every color and color combination imaginable.  However, rockabilly shoes have always been most popular in traditional black and white.  The same is true today; those looking to purchase rockabilly shoes will usually search out the black and white patterns.  Also, today, creeper shoes are made available in a more feminine style for women.

Those who are familiar with rockabilly know that it is not just a musical genre – it is a distinct sub-culture that has inspired a complete lifestyle, including rockabilly wear.  Yes, even a fashion trend emerged from this sub-culture of followers and music lovers.  One of the most well-known pieces of clothing are the rockabilly shoes, referred to as creeper shoes.

Other rockabilly shoes include peep toe heels for women.  Heels in the 1950’s were not stiletto style, but they were not the thick platforms of the 1970’s, either.  They were sexy and yet rebellious in nature, breaking away from the norm.  The heels were sexy and sassy and put a healthy “swagger” in the women’s walk.

Rockabilly clothing has had nearly as much influence on society as the music itself.  As a sub-culture, rockabilly seems to have withstood the test of time quite well and almost seems to be growing now.  In the 1980’s, The Stray Cats were quite successful, and they can attribute their style to the rockabilly influence.  They wore their hair in the typical pompadour style, and clad their feet in rockabilly shoes.

Rockabilly music has become an inspiration to all music lovers, and rockabilly clothing is still a popular style of dress today.  Though toned down from the flamboyance of the original wear in the 1950’s, rockabilly shoes, clothes, and hair are still loved today.
