In the 1950’s, when rockabilly
began, everybody following the trend dressed alike. Men wanted to look like Elvis Presley and Buddy Holly, with
Daddy-O shirts, oversized sport coats, slacks, and creeper shoes.
Women wore pedal pushers with gingham blouses or swing dresses with
peek toe heels. In the
present day, it is not realistic for all rockabillies to dress this way on
a daily basis. Daddy-O style
shirts are worn for bowling, so the style has gotten confused.
Women wear capris every day, so the pants don’t set them apart. |

Rockabilly tshirts today may show
replicas of vintage pinups, or they may say “rockabilly”.
They may even sport pictures of the rockabilly legends from the
1950’s, like Roy Orbison or Carl Perkins.
But most rockabilly tshirts advertise either cars or motorcycles.
Yes, rockabilly tshirts are all about the ride.
Everything from Indian Motorcycles to Castrol motor oil, and Hemi
engines can be found as the topic of a rockabilly tshirt. Hollywood Hotrods make a lot of
rockabilly tshirts, and MyBabyJo also manufactures several tshirts with
imitation pinups. So-Cal
offers tshirts for rockabilly lovers as well.
Of course, this doesn’t mean that everyone wearing a Harley
Davidson tshirt is a rockabilly. However,
rockabilly tshirts are more likely to show off a love for such vehicles. |
